Handmedown

I took a scenic tour of my village today - through the churchyard in which I fiercely gathered conkers on the walk to Harvest Festival at St Wilfrid's, the place where I was christened, from my primary school of the same name, where I made my first friends and learned my first lessons, and back through the streets I grew up on.
Tonight I had homemade chutney, and then sat in the pub I used to work in (shortlisted for one of the best pubs in Britain, no less) and drank strawberry beer with my ma and da, and talked and talked about everything from the river-god cult of the Mesolithic Iron Gates Gorge in Germany, to how and when they first knew that they wanted to be with each other forever. Then we came home, and made tea and fruit toast.
Coming home is always so strange; things do and don't change, and I never feel the same way twice.

Barnardo's Today

A while back
the lovely Ellie, James and I were interviewed at the little shop I volunteer at once a week. I finally got to send it home for my parents to put on the fridge in all its cheesy-grinned glory.

Invalids

All my friends are ill. It's just that time of year. Time to stay inside and make nice things for people you love. Get well soon chickies!

Sunday Girl

I love days like today. Waking up groggy to a cold crisp perfect kind of morning, after a good old wine-fuelled night and sleeping like the dead. Putting down a deposit for my Glastonbury ticket. A museli muffin and creamy full fat milk. Grocery shopping in all the sweet little shops on my street in the lovely autumn sunshine. Pomegranate green tea and Copella apple juice. Fantasy fiction marathons. Lovely guests and late night pizza. Making my first entirely solo sunday roast...with a little help from the men in my life, Dave, Si and Hugh.

Queen of Tarts

I am so proud of you.
I made a chocolate birthday bundt cake because of you, and tomorrow,
jam thumbprints!

I promise, do you?

Fall

...hooray for days of experimental bakery and peanut butter-cinnamon honeybuns, cosy lie-ins on rainy mornings, The Lord of the Rings, the promise of Glastonbury 2010, holey old '90s dresses bought at happy times, elderflower and lime Kopparberg cider, nachos and dancing.
Welcome in, Autumn.

teddybear (27-09-09)

and i love you in the
morning soft and expectant
without hard lines or
fully-formed thoughts
with only low light and
dreams dissipating through
your skin like perfume
the wrong way round

you must know i am on fire
for you i am keeping
my eyes on the stars and
my feet on the ground
yet it feels the opposite when
you are near as now
topsy turvy turned around and
dizzying depths of feeling

i am burning in this
quiet morning that could be
anywhere
as long as you and i could see it
