Leave Me Be

this poster hangs up in my bedroom.
you really should start buying Amelia's
Magazine.
it's full of nice things, and
i can't think of anyone who wouldn't
like it. unless blessed with very bad taste.

My First Crush by Julia Pott

Art Is The Cure is something worth
supporting, especially with the sweet
t-shirt design. i'd like the black and
turquoise please, size small. or is it
a bit too late for presents?

oh, it's a busy business, being home for the holidays.

edit: IS NOTHING SACRED?!?!?!?!?!

Luckiest Girl Alive

photos by melash...

to come from a fantastic family that are waiting for me to come home to good cooking and a fire in the grate and a turned-down bed. my gene pool is the type you'd like to swim in on a hot summer's day, as blue as a pair of eyes
on a hangover and as inviting as pastry crumbs scattered down a blouse.

Cityscape

this time next week, i will be back at home and there will be three hundred miles between me and this city of mine. the foxes will still be running up the alleys and down the closes but i won't be here to see them. my cosy little room will grow cold and the dust will settle down on the surfaces. and for a time, the company of new friends will be replaced with the company of old ones. it's not better or worse, but with the prospect so close, it's hard to imagine.

The Most Magical

Prick Your Finger tells me Oliver Postgate, father of classic children's programmes as well as political activist and pacifist, died last week. he was the creator of both kinds of my favourite mice in the entire world and what is perhaps the king of cats. he made worlds and characters out of things you could find in the garden shed and the sewing box, worlds of happiness and adventure and mystery and music.
i hope he rests in peace.
here are Bagpuss and The Clangers - they are the best things to watch when you're home ill, no matter what your age, as many years of experience have taught me. enjoy.

Music Box

i found it in an antiques and curios shop.

Words' Worth

examsexamsexamsexamsexamsexamsexamsexams...
two more and i am in clear, free as a bird, home and away.

have you ever sat in an exam hall and felt the pressure of all the words you could write, effectively every word in the world, just pressing down on your fingers until they can barely move, let alone manipulate a pen? and you just can't choose which one to start with because nothing feels quite right, but you know that you're running out of time and you have to pick the right ones to make up for the minutes spent just willing yourself to start writing, or else the whole experience will be for nothing?

no, me neither.

i'm beginning posting on lookbook again, out with the old and in with the new. you can have a nosy at my account here.
it's a bit like people watching really, but it's just that they don't move.

a week today, my sister will be here!

Midas -1°C

the sunset lights the frost up gold,
and everything i touch turns cold.

i have so much archaeology revision to do today. i'm going to ground and taking up residence in whichever cosy coffee shop i like, and reading like there's no 8am start tomorrow.

i burn, i pine, i perish...

knitted headband - selfmade
beetlejuice dress - handmedown
faux coat - great aunt's
tights - H&M
boots - Topshop

P.S.

"definitely a hooker..."

Eyeconic: SoKo-mpletely

cliff and i used to sing along to soko at high volumes in the car,
back in college when she drove a red mini called poppy.
soko is a french folk-pop fusion singer-songwriter.

she sings songs about tigers, shitty days and
never loving boys more than peanut butter.
we love her. you should too.

all pictures taken from her myspace.

Speak

i recently contributed a little bit of my time to a project called 'Speak'. it's a collection of stories, anecdotes, poems and personal moments - all about sexual experience. the aim is to break away from the stigma surrounding sex and to let people draw whatever else they wanted from all the anonymous intimacies. the university's feminist society collected and compiled them into a book. GG ran around the library offering up "sex and cakes" as cheap publicity.
ask me to send you one and i will.

i'm not an artist, i'm a communicator. but my entry was a picture, not a passage.
it's one of the only things that sometimes gets me lost for words.

currently: watching RENT; reading AMERICAN PSYCHO (bret easton ellis); wearing GLITTER NAIL VARNISH; eating TUNA, CHEESE AND BRANSTON PICKLE...?; listening to CHROMATICS; and wishing i'd gone to FUNK FAIR and the ANGELS SALE.
there's something quite liberating about capital letters.

"Fuck you and the horse you rode in on."

Adrian Hillard and Angelina Jolie.
the headwear, the lipstick, the curls...
the first went to high school with my flatmate. the closest i'll get to either of them was seeing the latter in 'Changeling'. worthy watching, Jolie was incredible.

"i eat antipasta twice, just because she is so nice! Angelina! the waitress at the pizzeria!
i give soup, minestrone, just to be with her alone! Angelina! the waitress at the pizzeria!"
- Louis Prima

Here I Am

scarf - Sophie's
skirt - vintage
coat and bag - Topshop

things to look forwards to that make exams irrelevant:
watching Changeling at The Cameo and going out for tea tonight;
lying in as long as i like on Monday;
visiting the German market and riding the ferris wheel drinking mead;
my sister coming up from London to take me home for Christmas.

Graveside Groupie

natalia brilli's leather rock band;

bringing a new spin on the term 'death metal'.

susie my playmate, come down the apple tree.

this advert - the song, the imagery, the concept - is perfect.
if only it weren't for such an ugly shoe. it's far too fantastic for sportswear.

Missing

this pretty little winged horse was last seen boarding a first class envelope in order to fly down to london and see the queen, before going to live with my sister. after weeks without any word of her arrival, i begin to fear the worst. if the villains of the postal service are holding her hostage, action will be taken. i refuse to rest until she is found and set free, and allowed to return to her rightful home.

i made the bracelet out of an ugly pair of earrings;
it sounds like windchimes when you move your wrist.

Something or Nothing

everytime someone goes away from university, something strange happens whilst they're gone. members of indie bands invading our flats, for instance, or visits from introverted norwegians. it must be some kind of phenomenon.
i'm never leaving again, in case i miss something else life-altering.

Thanksgiving

holy hell. i never even imagined the digestive carnage. fried chicken, garlic beans, fries, corn and broccoli casseroles, the greatest ham on earth and possibly the best pecan pie ever created. my first thanksgiving was an actual smash. i'm thankful for everything i've had thrown at me since september. good and bad, it's been intense and amazing.

Ornithology 101

today's assignment; be a bird lover.

watch every bird-related film you can think of. Hitchcock's The Birds...Fly Away Home...Kez...the scene in Forrest Gump when Jenny prays to be a bird...Lost and Delirious...Mary Poppins...

build a five star bird box.

avoid Edgar Allen Poe's "The Raven", which could instill hatred towards birds for its longevity.

become well aquainted with Bill Odie and David Attenborough.

have a turkey-free Christmas (if you succeed, you're a better man than i am)

try bird watching, either at a wildlife reserve or from the privacy of your own bedroom window.

learn The Owl and the Pussycat off by heart.

teach your cat that birds are friends, not food.

donate money to the RSPB.

cook someone tea entirely comprised of Birds Eye products (Bird's custard is also acceptable)

don't chase the pigeons. a pigeon is the same thing as a dove, did you know that?

take a picture of a bird and send it to me.

note: anyone sending pictures of naked women will be punished.

Head Hungry

but i loved wolves anyway!

Champions of Cardiac

and a real life romeo...

note: he should be present but try as i might, i just couldn't find a photograph that does heath ledger any justice.
